Peanut butter is probably one of Varun's most favorite things to snack on. Be it crunchy, or smooth, he can sit on the dining table with a spoon and an entire bottle will vanish in a matter of minutes! In fact, when he was younger - he would sneak into his pantry and slyly eat a heaped spoonful. One time, just as he was dipping his spoon into the bottle his mother caught him and told him to put the bottle back - she said, "it's not peanut butter, you won't like it". He thought that his mother was trying to trick him, and said that he wanted to eat it and he knew she wasn't saying the truth. His mother simply smiled and said, "go ahead". The minute he put his spoon in his mouth he made the most horrendous face - it was ginger-garlic paste!
The ingredients are fairly straightforward, the three things you need are - peanuts, salt and sugar.
After that stage, you need to grind it for about 30 seconds more. You then have creamy peanut butter to gorge on!!
Grind the peanuts, a little at a time with some sugar and salt. After about 30 seconds, they will look like this.
After about 2 minutes the peanuts will start to come together and will look like this.
After that stage, you need to grind it for about 30 seconds more. You then have creamy peanut butter to gorge on!!
Ingredients
- 1 kg Peanuts
- Salt
- Sugar
Roast the peanuts till they are fragrant and golden.
Pop about a cup-full into a food processor (the chutney bowl), and add about a quarter teaspoon of salt and two teaspoons of sugar. Process till the peanuts break down completely and start to come together. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and continue to process till quite smooth.
Taste each small lot of peanut butter and adjust the salt and sugar accordingly. (I'm not giving precise measurements because some like it extra sweet, some not too sweet and so on).
Store in an airtight container.
You can use this peanut butter for sandwiches, in cakes in place of butter and even the most lip smacking peanut butter frosting (recipe coming soon).
